I love your books, but hate your shipping costs! Where can I get them without paying so much?

StoneGarden.net Publishing books are available from a variety of online sources. I would suggest typing the title into http://www.booksprice.com for a full listing.

Writer's Guidelines

Publishing

This may come as a shock to many of you, but we’re really nice peoples here at StoneGarden.Net Publishing! We publish what we like, so we generally don’t have too many guidelines. As a general rule of thumb, we do not respond to submissions emails prior to our decision process being complete. If you wish to know that we received the file, please place a "read receipt" on the email. Decisions can take between six and eight weeks on a given manuscript. Please read our guidelines carefully as we do expect you to follow them.

1.) ALL submissions and query letters should be in crisp, clean text and fonts. Please send all in 12 point readable font (Ariel, Garamond, Times New Roman or Courier), BLACK text with no background images. Submissions sent otherwise will not be considered. Please bear in mind that while online publishers may not be as glamorous as brick and mortar firms, that does not mean they are unprofessional.

2.) All submissions must be in either .TXT, .RTF, .ODT or .DOC format. We do not accept snail mail submissions. Please send all submissions to manuscripts (at) stonegarden.net.

3.) Please only send the first chapter (or prologue and first chapter) of your manuscript. If we like what we see, we will request that you send us the remainder.

4.) Do NOT send manuscripts as the body of your email. Such submissions will be deleted without being read.

5.) Submissions of comic collections/graphic novels should consist of (at most) two sample graphics (at 150dpi). If items are available online, please submit the URL at the time of submission, along with your cover letter.

6.) Fiction/NonFiction manuscripts should be at least 21,500 words in length.

7.) Please double check your grammar and spelling before submitting a manuscript to us. If it’s painful for us to read we won't consider your manuscript for publication.

8.) All submissions will be fairly reviewed, however not all submissions are guaranteed publication.

9.) We do ask that you send a cover letter with all manuscript submissions. A short synopsis should accompany all manuscripts. Further, we ask that you not send "blank body" emails, with just an attachment. These emails will be deleted by our SPAM filter.

10.) We ask that all of our authors sign a contract with us. A sample copy is available on request.

11.) Royalty rates are set per the contract and are non-negotiable.

12.) StoneGarden.net Publishing reserves the right to delete/ignore/remove any manuscripts that do not conform to our guidelines. We're nice people, but we are also very busy. Please make our job as easy as possible and follow these few rules.

13.) Please do not submit titles that are currently being produced by another publishing house. If the title is being removed from their catalog, you may notate in your cover letter; otherwise your manuscript will be politely declined.

14.) We do not accept simultaneous submissions. Items noted as such will be declined.

15.) Submissions may be emailed to manuscripts(at)stonegarden.net.

16.) StoneGarden.Net Publishing reserves the right to change these guidelines at any time.

Our 2012 publishing schedule has been filled. Any submissions will be reviewed for 2013 and 2014. Due to a backlog of submissions, we are taking eight to twelve weeks for a determination on all submissions. Please do not contact us regarding the status of your submission if it has been less than eight weeks.

What marketing will StoneGarden do for me?

Publishing

Authors that self promote sell more. It is a simple fact in this business. We encourage our authors to be proactive and set up signings, readings and anything else they feel will assist them in getting their name out there. StoneGarden.net Publishing will assist you in these endeavors, and we are happy to speak with store owners, Community Relations Managers and store managers at your behest as needed. We also reserve the option of advertising your title(s) in trade publications and to libraries and bookstores.

What fees do your charge your authors?

Publishing

StoneGarden.net Publishing handles the ISBN and setup costs for our authors. We also work with Ingram and Baker & Taylor for distribution of an author's title(s), ensuring that they do not have to pay fees for this service.

Your contract states you may charge a fee to the author if they leave before one year, why would you do that?

Publishing

The key word here is "may". Generally speaking we do not charge fees of ANY kind to our authors. However, it does cost money to produce and promote a title. We ask just a little bit of time to make our money back. We do not enjoy spending money and having authors remove their titles the same day. That can get very costly for us.

Can I be published by StoneGarden?

Publishing

Maybe! We review all submissions fairly, and as fast as we can, but not everyone is guaranteed publication. Take a moment to review our guidelines before submitting.

Who distributes your books?

Publishing

We are distributed by Ingram, along with Baker and Taylor. Our ebooks are available through Amazon.com's Kindle.

Company FAQ

I love to SPAM. Can I do that on your site?

Company FAQ

If you enjoy being banned and prosecuted, please feel free. ALL users will be reviewed to ensure that they are not BOTS, SPAMMERS or worse. Users found to be such will be banned from not just the site, but from the entire domain. If you SPAM anyone on this site, or post any SPAM you will be prosecuted. PERIOD. We have zero tolerance for such antics.

About StoneGarden.net Publishing

Company FAQ
StoneGarden.net Publishing has come a long way since its inception in 1997. Started as a free ebook site by spurned writer Kristofer Stamp, it now sports more than forty authors and publishes both ebooks and trade paperbacks.

Through the years, StoneGarden.net Publishing has been run solely by Kristofer. As the years progressed, and the site and firm became more popular, he has had additional help from his authors in editing and finding more ways to get their names out to the public. StoneGarden authors regularly attend conventions and signing events, and even partake of e-signings right here on the home site! We have even seen authors on televised events.

Ultimately, StoneGarden is about giving new authors a chance to have their voice heard. Too often large publishing firms look only at the bottom line, and the name that comes attached to the manuscript. This kind of arrogance has caused many worthy authors to second guess their career choice, and their dreams. Authors rejoice, as there is a publishing house that enjoys quirky, new ideas.

What format are your books published in?

Company FAQ

We publish our books in trade paperback format. Dimensions are either 5 by 8 or 6 by 9. Occasionally, we will produce a hardcover novel, but we like keeping our prices down, so eschew that option with most titles. Each book has a listing for the dimensions and publication format in the catalog. We also produce ebook titles for Amazon.com's Kindle.

I would like to book a StoneGarden author for a signing.

Company FAQ

Please email or telephone the StoneGarden offices to make arrangements.

Why don't you have a lot of reviews on Amazon?

Company FAQ

We rely on word of mouth advertising for our titles. Not everyone that enjoys a title, or even doesn't enjoy it, is going to let the world know what they thought. If you are interested in reviewing a book, just let us know.

What publication format do you use?

Company FAQ

While we do not consider ourselves as part of any traditional format, we are pegged as Print-On-Demand, as our titles are produced as they are ordered.

Are your books available in brick and mortar stores?

Company FAQ

At this time our titles are only available online. We are working with our distribution partners to get them into the most popular brick and mortar outlets. You can always special order them through your favorite store using the ISBN number listed in our catalog.

How many title(s) does StoneGarden.net Publishing produce each year?

Company FAQ

We produce between twelve and eighteen titles per year. Some years we may produce more, but prefer to keep the number low to ensure a higher quality product.
